Solo Competition
Stand out in front of the rest.
Do you aspire to push yourself to greater heights? Do you crave the excitement of center stage? SAYS is the only youth orchestra in the greater Tucson area that hosts its own solo competition.
1st Prize: Solo performance with orchestra, tuition waved for the Spring semester of the current school year, and a $100 Instrumental Music Center gift card.
Runner-Up: 50% off Spring semester tuition for the current school year, and a $50 IMC gift card
COMPETITION CRITERIA
MUSIC:
You may pick any solo or concerto with orchestra that is available on IMSLP
LENGTH:
Total performance time must be under 15 minutes. You may cut movements or remove large sections to accommodate for timing. Music DOES NOT need to be memorized but it is preferred.
AUDITIONS:
Try outs will always take place in December. This year's audition will take place
Monday, December 16th, 2025.
It will happen during normal rehearsal time. You are required to perform with an accompanist. SAYS can offer pianist suggestions upon request.
RESULTS:
Audition winner and runner up will be announced the same day. Judges will assign a winner based on the same rubric. This can be found under the Documents section. At the judges' discretion, auditionees may be asked to play a short section again.
DATES:
Winner and Runner-up are expected to be at all rehearsals and concert, ready to perform. No exceptions under any circumstances.
